Caterham, a British automaker, has gone from producing four-wheeled machines to two-wheeled transport. The company has produced three models of electric bikes which have pedals and an electric motor to make the bicycle move.
The electric power is supplied by a 250W brushless motor which is connected to a 36V lithium battery that uses the rider’s pedal power to charge itself. The Carbon E-Bike features an 8-speed Shinamo Nexus internally geared hub. The bike is capable of travelling 50 miles on a single charge of the lithium battery and once the power runs out, you can just pedal it to charge the battery as you move along.
Another version is the Classic E-Bike which has a more retro look than the Carbon version. The Classic uses the same technology as its brother including the same 250-watt motor but comes with a 3-speed internal hub. Both bikes are equipped with an LED dashboard that gives information about the battery power, speedometer, trip computer and range indicator. The price of these bikes has yet to be announced.
Much like the ICON E-Flyer, these E-Bikes are the perfect urban transport. They are both compact and environmentally friendly, not to mention a great form of exercise during your daily commute.
