Huawei has officially entered uncharted territory in the world of personal computing by launching the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, the world’s first commercial foldable PC.
The MateBook Fold is a sleek and surprisingly lightweight machine, weighing just 1.16 kilograms and measuring only 7.3 millimeters thick when fully unfolded. At the heart of the device is an 18-inch dual-layer OLED screen, a first in the industry. It boasts a sharp 3.3K resolution, HDR vivid technology, peak brightness of 1600 nits, and supports the P3 wide color gamut. The display also shifts between a 3:2 aspect ratio when folded and a 4:3 ratio when open, offering flexibility across different work or entertainment scenarios.

Huawei claims this is the first PC to integrate commercial-grade LTPO technology, which supports an adaptive refresh rate and intelligent energy consumption, making it highly efficient. The screen is not only large but also designed for durability and clarity across all angles of use.

To support this expansive and foldable display, Huawei has engineered the largest hinge in the industry at 285 millimeters. This three-stage shaft hinge delivers a 400 percent increase in hovering torque and doubles the load-bearing capacity compared to standard laptop hinges. It allows the MateBook Fold to open and remain stable at angles ranging from 0 to 150 degrees, giving users more freedom to use it in various configurations, whether as a dual-screen workstation or in traditional laptop mode with an external keyboard.

Thermal management is handled by dual diamond aluminum fans and an ultra-thin antigravity VC heat sink, ensuring the system remains cool and efficient even during intense use. The back of the device is finished with a combination of leather and metal, offering a premium look while also being resistant to water and stains. An integrated stand on the rear enables smooth adjustment and supports hands-free operation.

Under the hood, the MateBook Fold runs HarmonyOS and is fully integrated with Huawei’s broader ecosystem. It supports HarmonyOS development tools, ships with WPS Office, and includes intelligent features typically seen on Huawei smartphones and tablets. The device’s distributed soft bus technology allows high-speed interconnection with other Huawei devices, enabling transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s and delivering over four times the connection stability of previous models.
Huawei is offering the MateBook Fold in two high-performance configurations. The 32GB RAM and 1TB storage model is priced at 23,999 yuan, approximately 3,328 USD. The version with 2TB of storage comes in at 26,999 yuan, or around 3,744 USD.
