The Only House Ever Designed By Zaha Hadid Is Completed In Russia

Everybody in the world of architecture has heard the name of the late Zaha Hadid. She designed numerous buildings in her career but only one private residence. The building is named Capital Hill Residence and it truly looks remarkable. The luxury house features bedroom suites that are raised above the surrounding trees.

Capital Hill Residence has only recently been completed but the idea was conceived in 2006. A wealthy client informed here that he wanted to wake up to see the blue sky every morning from his plot in Barvikha Forest, near Moscow. Hadid asked, “You realize you have to be above the trees?”. After receiving a positive answer, she drew what became Capital Hill Residence on a napkin.

Looking at the concrete and glass structure screams classic Hadid. It is not only bold and unique, it looks like a submarine rising up from the floor of the forest. Perhaps the most notable feature is the master bedroom suites that are raised above the high trees that surround the house on a skinny pillar.

Most of the remaining huge 2,650 sq m home is carved into the hillside. The first floor has a primary living room, dining area, kitchen, entertainment spaces, and an indoor swimming pool. The second floor has the children’s rooms, a guest room, and a library.
