Google has quietly revealed the pricing details of Veo 2, its latest AI-powered video generation model, which was unveiled in December. According to Google’s official pricing page, using Veo 2 will cost 50 cents per second of video—amounting to $30 per minute or $1,800 per hour.
The cost of AI-generated video is a key consideration for content creators and businesses looking to leverage AI for visual storytelling. Google DeepMind researcher Jon Barron compared Veo 2’s pricing with that of major Hollywood productions. For instance, Marvel’s blockbuster movie Avengers: Endgame reportedly had a production budget of $356 million, equating to $32,000 per second—a stark contrast to Veo 2’s cost.

While Veo 2 offers impressive AI-generated video capabilities, customers won’t necessarily use or retain every second of the content they generate. Additionally, the model is unlikely to create feature-length films anytime soon. Google’s announcement highlighted that Veo 2 is designed to generate clips two minutes or longer, making it more suited for short-form content rather than full-length movies.
The AI video generation space is heating up with competitors like OpenAI’s Sora, which was recently made available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers for $200 per month. However, Google’s pay-per-second pricing model offers a different approach, allowing users to pay only for the exact duration of video they generate.
As AI video technology continues to evolve, the affordability, quality, and creative flexibility of models like Veo 2 will play a crucial role in shaping the future of digital content creation. Whether for marketing, filmmaking, or entertainment, AI-generated video is poised to become a major industry disruptor.
