We all have heard stories and rumors about Area 51, right? But what if we told you that there is even a more bizarre location about 12 miles north of Area 51? That’s right, Google Earth photographs started quite a serious debate online and eventually, its existence was confirmed recently by the government.
This is an aerial photograph of the location that is touted as Area 6. 
It is located within the Nevada National Security Site that was previously known as Nevada Proving Grounds. In 1940s and 50s, a number of underground nuclear detonations were carried out over here and this site is, as of now, under the control of National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Once the pictures of Area 6 surfaces, the NSA didn’t quite commit to an explanation. 
However, it finally caved in recently and told the media that Area 6 is being used by the Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security. 
Darwin Morgan, a spokesman for the NNSA said, “They come here to test their own sensors. We do a wide variety of work for others…supporting people with sensor development activities. It evolved from the nuclear testing program. We had to have very good sensors to collect data in a split second before they were obliterated.”
