Google Introduces AI-Generated Podcasts From Discover Feed

Google has introduced an intriguing experimental feature called “Daily Listen,” designed to transform users’ Discover feeds into bite-sized, AI-generated podcasts. Part of the Search Labs initiative, this feature is currently available for Android and iOS users in the United States, providing a novel way to consume personalized content in an audio format.

As reported by 9to5Google, “Daily Listen” creates 5-minute audio episodes tailored to users’ interests and search history. The feature curates content from the Google Discover feed, analyzes user activity, and converts relevant updates into audio summaries. Accompanying the audio is a text transcript, akin to song lyrics, for those who prefer reading or want to follow along visually.

The functionality includes intuitive playback controls, such as play/pause, rewind, and skip, and also displays related stories for each topic. Users can rate the content by providing a thumbs up or down, helping to refine future episodes for better personalization.

To use the feature, users must activate it through Search Labs in the Google app. Once enabled, a “Daily Listen” card appears in the “Space” carousel beneath the search bar. Tapping this card launches a full-screen player where users can interact with their custom audio feed. Notably, the first personalized episode may take up to 24 hours to generate after activation.

Although the feature has not been widely tested yet, the concept of “Daily Listen” appears promising. For individuals who rarely engage with the Google Discover feed, this innovative approach could serve as a compelling reason to revisit it regularly.

By blending convenience, personalized content, and the increasing demand for audio-based media, Google seems to have devised a fresh and potentially impactful method to keep users both informed and engaged.
