Wouldn’t it be nice if we could generate electricity while on the go? That’s the idea that is behind Goodyear’s BH-03 tire that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week. It features a thermos-piezoelectric material that has been built within the tire and transforms heat into electricity.
The heat that is transformed is gained from the tire’s rolling and is converted into electricity that can be utilized for charging batteries in an electric or hybrid car. The tread has been designed so that it absorbs sunlight more effectively and thus, the tire is able to generate electricity even when the car is parked. Goodyear hasn’t stated any numbers yet since the tire is only a conceptual product as of now.
Goodyear is confident that such technologies will help to incorporate electric cars into our lifestyle. Let’s see when this technology becomes realistic and we can reap full benefits of it.
