Volvo has unveiled a 360c fully autonomous concept car which is a mix of both technology and luxury. The 360c is the highest rated autonomous car which means a level 5, which means that it can be computer controlled in all environments and situations. Instead of keeping it as a buy and drive production car, Volvo thinks that a 360c is something which groups and business may buy in groups and offer to their employees or clients as a perk. The 360c is a luxurious fully automated travel car and has additional features like in-car coffee making and a silent ride as well.
There will be no steering wheel present in the car. The car will communicate with its external environment using a series of exterior lights which project a range of colors in addition to sounds and other visual elements. 360c is an exciting vehicle from Volvo. However, it is still a concept car and will not go into production anytime soon.
Volvo 360c will give a platform to show off their vision for the future of autonomous driving. The company is making a strong statement that they are not only ready to accept autonomous driving but will also be a leader to change the way we think of travel generally. Volvo Cars president and CEO Hakan Samuelsson said, “The business will change in the coming years, and Volvo should lead that change of our industry. The autonomous drive will allow us to take the big next step in safety but also open up exciting new business models and allow consumers to spend time in the car doing what they want to do.”
The 360c is shown as a place of comfort and rest. The images released show the occupants of 360c, sleeping, having a business meeting, and also enjoying breakfast. The pictures define Volvo’s idea that a luxurious autonomous car might be a real alternative to domestic air travel. Volvo has indicated that they are a “potentially lucrative competitor to short-haul air travel.” Volvo says that for shorter routes, where the distance between origin and destination is almost 300 kilometers, going by car is much faster and comfortable. Marten Levenstam, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Volvo Cars said, “Domestic air travel sounds great when you buy your ticket, but it isn’t. The 360c represents what could be a whole new take on the industry. The sleeping cabin allows you to enjoy premium comfort and peaceful travel through the night and wake up refreshed at your destination. It could enable us to compete with the world’s leading aircraft makers.”
