The SC-Club located in Nantes has decided to celebrate its fifth anniversary in a unique way. The SC-Club is adding two very unusual pole dancers – they are robots which will have CCTV cameras instead of any heads. The robots come from British artist Giles Walker.

The move has been described as bold and artistic. Giles Walker has incorporated parts of plastic mannequins to the robots’ metal bodies. The CCTV camera instead of the head is meant to tinker with the notions of voyeurism and poses the question of ‘who has the power between the voyeur and the observed person’ as per Giles Walker.

The club owner of SC-Club, Laurent Roue, has made it clear that the robots are not meant as a replacement for the human employees. He said, ‘For us, it’s a wink, a homage in a way to robotics. We need something human, warmth, physical contact, and this is really putting together opposites. To each his own.’ The robots are slated to make their official debut on Tuesday and shall be performing at the SC-Club for about a month. The SC-Club is the very first night club to have such special dancers.

Giles Walker had developed these bats back in 2008. He says that at that time there was a lot of discussion about a ‘sexed up’ Iraq dossier. Giles Walker further says while explaining, ‘So I was just playing with the idea that if a document could be sexed up, maybe CCTV cameras could be as well. That’s how I got to these mechanical peeping toms. It was a mingling of all those things.’ Now that Walker has created robots, what do you think? Would you be comfortable going to a night club which has robotic pole dancers with CCTV cameras instead of heads? More importantly, would these CCTV cameras be recording?

Nonetheless, the feat sure is unique and amazing. Let’s see how the customers of the SC-Club respond to these robotic dancers.
