France Finds World’s Largest Hydrogen Reserve Valued At $92 Billion

A major discovery by scientists in France opens up possibilities to reshape the worldwide energy sector. A 46-million-ton natural hydrogen deposit was discovered by scientists at Folschviller within the Moselle region. The $92 billion worth of natural hydrogen reserves has the potential to revolutionize clean energy production.

The GeoRessources laboratory, together with CNRS, discovered the reserve during their methane exploration search. The team discovered an enormous white hydrogen supply at a depth of 4,101 feet (1,250 meters). White hydrogen stands apart from green hydrogen and gray hydrogen since it exists naturally, and extraction methods cause minimal environmental damage.

The newly discovered hydrogen reservoir contains more than half of the yearly global gray hydrogen production levels but produces no carbon emissions. The efficient extraction of white hydrogen would create an affordable renewable energy source that helps decrease dependence on fossil fuels.

The production of hydrogen has encountered multiple cost and environmental obstacles throughout several years.
