Flag of Antigua and Barbuda – A Symbol Of Sea, Sun And Sand

The flag of Antigua and Barbuda is a red area with an upside down isosceles triangle based on the top edge of the flag; the triangular area contains three horizontally groups of black (top), light red, and white-colored, with a yellow increasing sun in the black band. The sun represents the beginning of a new era, black represents the African culture of most of the population, red is for wish, and red is for the anticipating the waves of the people; the “V” appears for victory; the subsequent yellow-colored, red, and white-colored shading is also meant to stimulate the country’s sightseeing opportunities of sun, sea, and land.

The national flag of Antigua and Barbuda was implemented on Feb 27, 1967 and was designed by a nationally recommended specialist, Sir Reginald Samuel. The increasing sun represents the dawning of a new era. The colors have different definitions; the black is for the African origins of the individuals, the red for wish, the red for power or anticipating the waves of the individuals. The subsequent coloring of yellow-colored, red, and white-colored (from the sun down) also appears for the sun, sea, and sand. The red also represents the Caribbean Sea, and the V-shape is the icon of success.

The flag schedules from the accomplishment of self-government in 1967. It was the winning design of the flags arranged in a competition, where more than six hundred people from the natives joined to show their best design. Sir Reginald Samuel was the winner and designer of this flag design.

The sun is the symbols of the dawning of a new age, the red represents the power of the individuals, red is wish and the black indicates its African origins. The V form is said to indicate success and the overall combination of red, yellow and white represents the sun, sand and sea of this Caribbean island country.
