Extraordinary Transforming Road Yacht RV Drops Jaws At CES

The collaboration between Italian design legend Pininfarina and California startup AC Future has given rise to innovation in motorhomes. Debuting at CES 2025, the AI-THd (AI Transformer Home, Drivable) is no longer just a concept confined to sleek renderings.

At first glance, the AI-THd maintains the modest dimensions of a standard camper van, measuring 20 feet (6 meters) in length. But its ingenuity lies in the ability to transform into an expansive 400-square-foot (37-square-meter) living space at camp. Slide-out modules extend from the sides and rear, creating a luxurious interior that rivals larger Class A motorhomes. The rear slide-out incorporates an innovative super-roof mechanism that aligns seamlessly during travel but expands to offer additional height and space when stationary. While the design is revolutionary, the roof’s shallow basin when open presents a potential challenge in wet conditions.

Inside, the AI-THd elevates the motorhome experience. The driver-side expansion module hosts a dining area flanked by two sofas that double as secondary beds. The dining table and chairs are stowable, enhancing versatility by allowing open floor space when the module is retracted. The kitchen, designed for both form and function, features dual counters—one with a sink and dishwasher, the other with a cooktop and standing fridge—complemented by overhead cabinets housing a microwave.

A redesigned bathroom stretches across the vehicle, incorporating a glass-walled shower, a toilet, a sink, a washer/dryer, and a folding worktop. The rear bedroom offers a secluded retreat, while the cockpit, bathed in light from its panoramic windshield and windows, serves as a potential office or private lounge.

Sustainability and technology are central to the AI-THd’s appeal. The vehicle integrates features such as rooftop solar panels generating over 5 kW of power, atmospheric water generation to convert air moisture into drinking water, and smart home connectivity for seamless control of various systems. Innovations like water recycling enhance resource efficiency, catering to travelers seeking long-term adventures. While artificial intelligence is hinted at in its functionality, specifics about its integration remain under wraps.

The AI-THd represents a significant step forward in motorhome innovation, blending cutting-edge technology with unparalleled comfort. Though the prototype dazzled audiences at CES 2025, it’s still on its journey toward production, with AC Future planning to launch the first models by late 2026.

For those eager to join the revolution of luxury camping, early reservations provide an opportunity to be part of this transformative experience.
