Ever Wondered What Is The Best Way To Eat An Oreo? This Is What The Science Says

The Absolute Best Way to Eat An Oreo, According to Science

Oreo enjoyers in the past have come up with unlimited versions of the loved cookie and whether you are a dunker, a twister, or a fast-snacker there is no one way to enjoy the cookie, more than 100 flavors of the treat have been released previously e.g. Brookie-O, Limeade, and even Hot Chicken, to name a few but there is still no clear vote on what’s the best way to consume the cookie.

Oreo officials and scientists have their preferred ways of eating it and have now shared it with the world.
Oreo’s U.S. Marketing Director, Marion Delgutte Saenen says, “The ultimate way to enjoy the cookie is the twist, lick and dunk method.” He further added, “Even though fans have their preferred ways of consuming America’s favorite cookie, this will always be our way of enjoying it.”

Sensory specialists and food scientists can suggest some research-based methods for deriving increased pleasure from an Oreo. Researchers say that the vanilla and chocolate combination is ‘congruent’ which simply means that it is designed to maximize sensory joy. Although it’s hard to measure congruence, a 2016 study Chemical Senses journal noted that the rich, warm, earthy scent of chocolate in combination with the sweet flavor of vanilla is a great fit.

The 40 billion Oreos manufactured per annum are majorly sweet, but they contain a specific quantity of fat. And as food scientists are aware, sugar and fat make an amazing pair if you’re trying to hit your brain’s reward system from the right angle. Tastes can be split down into five main categories: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami. And fat results in making Oreos more exciting to our tastebuds than a simple sweetfest.

“The combination of fat and sugar doesn’t add but creates synergy. Instead of 1 + 1 = 2, it’s 1 + 1 = 4,” claims Linda Flammer, a senior research associate at Philadelphia’s Monell Chemical Senses Center. For layman’s understanding: “Most scientists maintain that fat plus sugar is super tasty.”
