Elon Musk’s Grok AI Pushes False News Stories About Indian Election And Iran Strike

Grok AI, developed by Elon Musk, has drawn criticism lately for spreading untrue reports about global events. A recent instance is an assertion that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was defeated by his opponent in the forthcoming election, despite the fact that the poll has not yet been held.

An item suggesting a “shocking turn of events” in Indian politics was headlined “PM Modi Ejected from Indian Government.” Many in India have reacted negatively to this fake story, accusing Grok AI of disseminating misleading information.

With about 1 billion voters eligible to cast ballots, the Indian election, which is scheduled to take place from April 19 to June 1, 2024, is predicted to be the biggest democratic election in history. It is alarming that erroneous information regarding such a big event is circulating, and it emphasizes the importance of responsible journalism.

Critics have noted that bogus news stories have been propagated by Grok AI before, not just in this instance. The AI misreported earlier last month that Iran had fired heavy missiles at Tel Aviv. This fake report surfaced in Musk’s platform, X,’s trending news section, which prompted more criticism of Grok AI’s dependability.

On the other hand, Musk has supported Grok AI as he states that it can be an alternative source of information and news to other mainstream media. Throughout his career, Musk has never hidden his criticism of the media and has always emphasized its biased and unreliable nature. In this context, he is promoting Grok AI as the antidote, encouraging ‘citizen journalism’ to provide viable alternatives in the struggle against media bias and propaganda. Critics, on the other hand, maintain that misinforming the public with false news, particularly concerning critical incidents such as elections and global affairs, is a kind of irresponsibility and danger. They have expressed concern that action should be taken by government bodies against these platforms that allow this misinformation. One example is the incident with Grok AI that shows how challenging it can be to have news platforms that are driven by artificial intelligence but have to ensure their precision and reliability.
