Elon Musk Wants Optimus To Be Your Good-Looking Friend

Elon Musk’s most recent remarks regarding Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, brought about excitement once more. Musk expressed his ambitions for the humanoid robot at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. “I think people will start to regard their personal Optimus robot as a friend,” he stated. Drawing parallels to beloved pop culture icons like Star Wars R2-D2, Musk highlighted the potential for Optimus to become a cherished companion.

Musk jokingly stated that he would make the robots “handsome.” Still, he clarified that the main objective is to ensure the robots are aesthetically appealing, not necessarily human-like. His goals for Optimus go beyond appearances; they center on usefulness and companionship.

“It’s a generalized humanoid robot that you can just ask it to do things like walk your dog, clean your house, watch the kids, make dinner, and play the piano,” Musk said.

Musk has big plans for Optimus. He suggested the enormous value he sees in this project during Tesla’s 2024 annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas. Musk boldly indicated that Tesla’s Optimus robots might eventually make the automaker worth more than half of the $45.5 trillion value of the S&P 500. Optimus is a significant part of this phase, which he called a “new chapter” or perhaps a “new book” in Tesla’s journey.

Musk imagines a future where each person has a customized robot that meets their unique demands. He thinks that one of Tesla’s most important assets will be its Optimus robots, which will spur innovation and increase its market value. “Every human would have a robot of their own one day,” Musk said, reaffirming his commitment to bringing sophisticated, customized robotics to everyone.
