‘Elon Musk Teases Reconciliation With Rival Billionaire Bezos On X

This week, the rivalry between Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, and Jeff Bezos, the planet’s second richest, took an unexpected turn as Musk teased a newfound camaraderie with Bezos. Both billionaires oversaw huge rocket launches at their respective aerospace firms, SpaceX and Blue Origin, as they watched the launch.

Musk posted a congratulatory message on his X platform Thursday morning celebrating Blue Origin’s successful launch of the New Glenn rocket. Musk reciprocated by wishing Bezos luck on the Starship launch later that day. Musk then responded with a playful barrage of memes, referencing the 2008 comedy Step Brothers. The movie’s one iconic scene, where Ferrell’s character asks, “Did we just become best friends?” was dubbed the “perfect meme” for Musk and Bezos’ evolving relationship. Musk also posted a funny reference to the film’s ‘Catalina Wine Mixer’ scene, joking it was ‘actual footage’ of the pair bonding.

Musk and Bezos have long had a competitive and joking relationship. While Musk’s $426 billion net worth dwarfs Bezos’ $235 billion, both men are globally known for their ventures. Musk’s wealth, however, comes from his stakes in SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI, while Bezos makes the majority of his fortune from Amazon.

It comes after a period of tension. Bezos denied Musk’s recent accusation that he undermined Tesla and SpaceX during the U.S. presidential elections. The two had years of good-natured rivalry, including Musk’s cheeky plan to mail Bezos a silver medal after he surpassed him in wealth, but they dined together last month at Mar-a-Lago with Donald Trump and Mark Zuckerberg.

The bromance is a sign of a new chapter in their relationship, with the billionaires appearing to have embraced humor and mutual respect as they compete to rule the final frontier.
