Elon Musk Just Shared A Picture Of The L.A Boring Tunnel

(Source: Instagram)

It all started in December last year when Elon Musk got tired of being stuck in traffic. Saying he couldn’t take it anymore, he was going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging. Who knew he was not just venting out on Twitter and was actually serious.

Just a little month afterward, he got his approval to move forward with his plans and he took to Twitter once again to announce to the world that the digging will commence in another month.

This was an exciting prospect not only living in close vicinity of where the tunnel was being built but for people all around the world as it meant a redefinition of public transport. If it could happen in one place, it can happen everywhere else too and knowing Elon Musk, it’s probable that he would not rest unless his tunnels are spread far and wide in the world.

His company Boring Co. is digging a tunnel under Hawthorne, California near the SpaceX headquarters. After months of construction, Musk finally shared the first real look into the boring tunnel itself. He took to Instagram to upload a picture of the tunnel under LA.

The image shows that the tunnels are very well built with panels on the walls and well-defined tracks and the tunnels have a proper illumination system as well. “This thing is real. It’s exciting to see,” Maryland Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn said to the LA Times. “The word ‘transformational’ may be overused, but this is a technology that leapfrogs any technology that is out there today. And it’s going to be here.”

Musk recently got permission to build in Maryland as well and will be 17 km long running between Baltimore-Washington Parkway. We might be seeing more details on these tunnels in the days to follow.
