Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, made a funny comment on Sunday, suggesting that people should take a break from their phones and spend time with loved ones instead of constantly using Twitter. This came after Twitter faced criticism for implementing a new policy that limits the number of tweets users can view.
“Awake from a deep trance, step away from the phone to see your friends and family,” Twitter boss tweeted.
After Musk announced on Saturday that unverified users could see up to 600 posts per day and Twitter Blue subscribers could see 6,000 posts, many users speculated that Musk’s real motive behind the rule was to gain more subscribers.
However, the Twitter CEO clarified that the decision was made to address issues like data scraping and system manipulation. The limits were later revised to 800 and 8,000 respectively and then further updated to 1,000 for unverified accounts and 10,000 for verified users.
As a result of these restrictions, some users were locked out of Twitter for the day once they reached the daily limit. The announcement led to “Twitter down” trending on the platform, with many users expressing frustration over not being able to access the site. Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, reported around 7,500 people experiencing problems at one point on Saturday.
Musk’s recent tweet advising users to take a break from Twitter sparked a wave of memes and jokes in response, with many users humorously demanding to see “just one more tweet.” However, some users also expressed concerns that the new policy could negatively impact businesses trying to promote themselves on the platform and reach out to users.
