MVRDV Unveils An Incredible Masterpiece For Eindhoven Again

The Dutch city of Eindhoven is bracing itself to host another one of the MVRDV masterpieces.  The Dutch architectural company, along with SDK Vastgoed (VolkerWessels) has ventured to construct Nieuw Bergen, which is an all green block of residential and business areas accompanied with living roofs and solar panels.

Nieuw Bergen is located in the inner city area of Deken van Someren Street and boasts to have about 7 buildings comprising of 240 new homes, 270 square meters of urban farming, 1,700 square meters of commercial space, and even underground parking for the residents and visitors.

Nieuw Bergen is being presented as the hyper-modern development and will add 29,000 square meters of new living and working space to Eindhoven city center. The 45-degree pitches ensure the availability of optimal indoor natural light while the sharply angled and turf-covered roofs form unique shadows and silhouettes that look alluring and elegant.

Jacob van Rijs, co-founder of MVRDV, said about the construction:

“Natural light plays a central role in Nieuw Bergen, as volumes follow a strict height limit and a design guideline that allows for the maximum amount of natural sunlight, views, intimacy and reduced visibility from street levels. Pocket parks also ensure a pleasant distribution of greenery throughout the neighborhood and create an intimate atmosphere for all.”

Nieuw Bergen consists of several different structures but collectively create a family of buildings that blends brilliantly with the existing urban landscape. Lamella Roof tops of the builds are embellished with gardens and greenhouses, with the base created using natural materials comprising of stone, wood, and concrete.
