China Firm Unveils World’s First 1400A EV Battery – And It Can Go 93 Miles On A One Minute Charge

Chinese battery maker SEVB has launched what it calls the world’s fastest-charging electric vehicle battery, the Star Chaser 2.0, capable of delivering over 93 miles (150+ kilometers) of driving range with only one minute of charging. The new battery system was introduced at the 17th Shenzhen International Battery Fair.

While modern EVs now match internal combustion engine vehicles in terms of range, they still lag when it comes to refuelling speed. Filling a gas tank takes about five minutes, but many EVs need much longer to recharge. SEVB’s latest technology aims to close that gap with 12C charging, allowing a full charge in roughly five minutes, setting a new benchmark for ultra-fast charging capabilities.

The Star Chaser 2.0 battery leverages SEVB’s proprietary Tianqing architecture, which combines high energy density with advanced thermal-electric separation. Innovations such as integrated liquid-cooled battery disconnect units and flexible printed circuits inside the battery pack enable more compact and safer designs. These developments have allowed the battery to safely handle an extraordinary 1,400-amp current through SEVB’s Xinxingchi 2.0 Kiloamp Extreme Charging Edition infrastructure. Combined with a 1,000-volt vehicle platform, the system delivers a 1.4-megawatt burst of energy during flash charging, putting it on par with refuelling a gas-powered vehicle.

Star Chaser 2.0 is not just fast it’s also designed for high performance and resilience. At a slightly slower 6C charge rate, the system can still deliver an impressive 530-mile (800-kilometer) range, making it suitable for long-distance travel and heavy-duty electric vehicles. SEVB also addresses critical safety issues that come with fast charging, such as the risk of thermal runaway or battery fires. The battery pack features multilayer sandwich cooling that increases the cooling surface by 50 percent, along with aerospace-grade insulation that ensures safe operation. The battery maintains 90 percent energy retention even in extreme cold conditions down to -20 degrees Celsius and continues to function normally at -40 degrees Celsius.

The company is also expanding this cutting-edge technology beyond four-wheeled vehicles. It announced a 6C ultra-fast charging battery for two-wheelers, featuring ultra-low resistance that reduces heat generation by five degrees, making electric motorcycles safer and more efficient for daily commuting.

SEVB is not just innovating for performance but also targeting affordability. The company claims that its new battery systems will lower the total cost of ownership of EVs below that of internal combustion vehicles over three years.
