Cadillac, the American carmaker, has taken the veils off of its first electric vehicle by showing teaser images of it. For those of you who don’t know; Cadillac is a division of General Motors which announced its aim of moving towards an all-electric future just recently. There is no detail as to what the vehicle will be called or how it will be powered.

The company, however, has promised to provide us with more information once the release date of the car is near. The released images of the electric vehicle do pit is as a competitor for the luxury Model X.

General Motors is aggressively going for the all-electric future. It has planned to release a new model every six months up till 2021. Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac, said, ‘Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world. It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.’

General Motors is also developing an EV platform and has said that the Cadillac will be the first of the many brands to come onboard. The platform will enable carmakers to respond to the evolving market demands with a short design and development lead time. General Motors also claims to be developing battery cells and drive units that can be used with various GM vehicle lineups all over the world. The output of these battery systems will be fine-tuned as per the vehicle and the market demand.

Steve Carlisle said, ‘The architectural design will allow the battery packs to fit into the vehicle like ice cubes in an ice cube tray, you can put in as much water as you want to make as many cubes as you need — the tray still takes up the same space in the freezer.’

Among other carmakers that are opting for electric approach include Lexus and Volkswagen. Whether these carmakers are able to get an appreciable share in the EV market that is currently being dominated by Tesla remains to be seen!
