Bugatti Has Unveiled A New Version Of The Chiron Super Sport – And It Is Like An Artwork On Wheels

Chiron Super Sport Golden Era, Bugatti's Artwork On Wheels

Amidst the fast-paced evolution of automotive technology, Bugatti’s tribute to the past arrives in the form of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era.’

This exceptional creation, conceptualized by a passionate Bugatti collector, stands as a two-year labor of creativity and craftsmanship, a testament to the brand’s heritage and intricate mechanics. The inception of this project sprang from the collector’s desire to center it around the Chiron, a pivotal model that showcased Bugatti’s landmark W16 engine.

Capturing Bugatti’s essence and narrative, the brand’s design team embarked on a journey to encapsulate the distinctiveness that defines Bugatti through its illustrious history. The project sought to echo the pioneering days of the company’s founders—Ettore Bugatti, Jean Bugatti, and Roland Bugatti—that marked the initial golden era of the brand.

Additionally, the endeavor aimed to mirror Bugatti’s contemporary design philosophy from 1987, spotlighting the era-defining symbols that continue to epitomize the Bugatti name.

Achim Anscheidt, the former Bugatti Design Director responsible for this project, expressed, “Our team proposed a concept featuring 45 sketches of the brand’s icons that would be hand-drawn directly onto the car itself, and the owner immediately fell in love with the idea.” However, achieving this level of detail demanded immense patience and meticulous craftsmanship.

The automobile’s overarching design seeks to honor Bugatti’s historical milestones through intricately detailed illustrations, each depicting a significant moment in the company’s journey. To ensure the artwork’s authenticity, Bugatti developed a process allowing its artists to utilize pencils and directly hand-draw each sketch onto the vehicle’s paintwork. A custom hue named Doré was created, and a unique gradient color, an interpretation of “Nocturne Black” in metallic form, was applied to the car. This provided the perfect canvas for the artists to embark on the intricate task of sketching directly onto the vehicle.

On the passenger side, 26 hand-drawn designs portray icons such as the Type 57 SC Atlantic, renowned for its beauty, and the opulent Type 41 Royale, a 1926 masterpiece. These illustrations commemorate the instances when Bugatti’s ingenuity reshaped the automotive landscape. Meanwhile, the driver’s side showcases 19 illustrations that chronicle Bugatti’s resurgence from 1987, encapsulating models like the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron. Furthermore, an elegant representation of the W16 engine, consisting of 3,712 individual components, takes its rightful place as part of this artistic masterpiece.

The journey of artistic expression extends to the interior door panels, where Bugatti icons like the Type 35, Type 57 SC Atlantic, and Type 41 Royale are meticulously hand-applied using special paints and delicate brushes. These icons of the past are juxtaposed with legends of the present—the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron—symbolizing inspiration and evolution.

Awaiting formal delivery during Monterey Car Week, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’ stands as a remarkable testament to the brand’s storied history, artistic prowess, and unwavering dedication to engineering excellence.

In this exclusive creation, Bugatti showcases that automotive artistry can transcend time, bridging the golden eras of the past with the innovative possibilities of the present and future.
