BMW X2City Electric Kick Scooter Is Going To Be Your New Ride

The German car maker BMW has just revealed the new X2City folding electric kick scooter is going to add a little more life to urban transport solutions. The scooter is the first product that BMW will sell outside of the company’s own dealership network. BMW worked in collaboration with the German bicycle company ZEG to create the X2City that has been classified as “Pedelec25”, so you do not require a license to ride one. The bike will sell at over 1000 ZEG dealerships all over Germany with its other brands like Kettler, Bulls, Pegasus, and Hercules.

The BMW X2City has a top speed of 15mph (25 km/hr) with a range of 25 to 35 kilometers (15 to 22 miles) and folds into a size even smaller than a folding bicycle. All of this is nothing new in the market, but the scooter sure brings the BMW experience to a wider variety of customers.

BMW has indicated that it will be less than US$ 2,850 (€2,500).

The world’s expectations with BMW are based on its extraordinary reputation so we can expect the bike to be well above average and technologically advanced, robust, reliable and easier to use. “Last mile” transport is going to become a need in the coming years with the fast face urbanization and the X2City is the first BMW product to look into it. With automobiles over-flooding in cities, most automobile manufacturers are moving on to become transportation companies, and BMW just took the first step towards it.

A 408Wh lithium ion battery enclosed below the running platform powers the X2City. A battery management system will ensure a range of  25 to 35 kilometers for the scooter that is charged with an exterior charging socket via magnetic connector in a matter of nearly 2.5 hours. It is not clear yet if the bike will be able to lock to a rack or a pole, but the foldable scooter sure is handy enough for your short daily commutes.
