Bluesky Crosses The 15 Million User Mark

Bluesky, the short-form posting platform, has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 15 million users following a surge in sign-ups after the US presidential election. It is currently the number one free app on the iOS App Store, surpassing apps like Threads, ChatGPT, and Google.

Bluesky, built on the decentralized AT Protocol, offers a different experience compared to Meta’s Threads. While both platforms are ad-free for now, Bluesky stands out by providing user-created algorithmic feeds alongside its default “Discover” and “Popular With Friends” options. Recent updates to the platform include features like video posting, pinned posts, custom fonts, and anti-toxicity tools that allow users to detach their posts when quoted by others.

Despite Bluesky’s growth, Threads continues to lead with 275 million monthly users, adding over a million new sign-ups daily. However, Bluesky’s unique features and its focus on user control over content are positioning it as a compelling alternative.
