Apple Unveils iPhone 17e With MagSafe, Double Storage And A Fresh New Look

Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 17e, updating its more affordable lineup with premium features previously reserved for higher-end models. The announcement confirms the return of MagSafe support, expanded base storage, and a new soft pink color option, marking a notable step forward from last year’s iPhone 16e.

The new device was revealed in Apple’s official launch video, highlighting its upgraded internals and design refinements, according to Apple’s announcement. Unlike the iPhone 16e, which only supported standard wireless charging, the iPhone 17e brings back full MagSafe compatibility, enabling magnetic accessories such as wallets, stands, and battery packs to snap securely into place.

Starting at $599, the iPhone 17e maintains the same entry price as its predecessor but now includes 256GB of storage as standard, double the previous 128GB base option. A 512GB variant is also available for $799, undercutting the previous model’s higher pricing at that capacity tier.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Apple’s A19 chip, the same processor used in the base iPhone 17 lineup. It also features Apple’s updated C1X cellular modem, offering up to twice the speed of the C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e. Apple says the combination delivers improved performance and connectivity while maintaining efficiency.

Photography remains a major focus. The iPhone 17e includes a 48MP Fusion camera capable of capturing next-generation portrait shots and 4K Dolby Vision video. It also enables an optical-quality 2x telephoto experience, effectively functioning like a dual-camera setup despite the streamlined design.

The introduction of MagSafe significantly enhances the user experience. The magnetic alignment system improves charging efficiency and supports a growing ecosystem of snap-on accessories. Its inclusion signals Apple’s intent to close the feature gap between its entry-tier and flagship models.

Another notable shift is cadence. Apple appears committed to updating its entry-level iPhone annually, moving away from the longer refresh cycles that characterized earlier models such as the iPhone SE.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e begin Wednesday, March 4 at 6:15 am PT, with retail availability starting March 11.
