An analyst from Guggenheim believes that Apple has plans to introduce simpler branding for its phones. He believes that the company will use the upcoming cycle to change the iPhone naming pattern. This change will affect the phones that come after iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

The analyst gave the following statement, “We think Apple may use this upcoming cycle to formally change its iPhone naming/branding pattern, with the mid-market LCD-based iPhone simply called iPhone without any numbering.”

Apple has been known to make changes when it comes to the names of its devices. A very big example is the iPad. Apple started from the iPad and went to iPad 2. Then they went back to the New iPad. It had the name iPad Air by the fifth generation before it returned to being called the iPad again.

According to the statement, the iPhone X will retain its branding. However, if Apple does decide to go ahead with new iPhone names, it will get very confusing for the consumers. Without any sort of identifying term or number, it would become very hard to refer to the specific models.

We will have to wait and see if the tech giants actually do proceed with this or if they stick to the trusted number system.
