Apple Is Launching A Smart Doorbell With Face ID In 2025

Apple is gearing up to revolutionize the smart home market with its first smart doorbell, set to launch in late 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the innovative device will feature Face ID technology, allowing it to automatically unlock doors by scanning a user’s face. This bold step marks Apple’s entry into the smart home camera space, following reports earlier this year of the company’s ambitions in this arena.

At the heart of the device is Apple’s proprietary wireless networking chip, Proxima. This chip ensures all Face ID-related images are processed locally, prioritizing user privacy. Additionally, the smart doorbell will integrate seamlessly with iCloud for data backup, offering a secure way to store information and potentially boosting Apple’s subscription revenues.

A key question remains whether Apple will introduce its own smart lock system alongside the doorbell or collaborate with third-party HomeKit-compatible smart locks. The device is expected to support the Thread smart home standard, further strengthening Apple’s position in the growing smart home ecosystem.

The smart doorbell is reportedly in its early development stages, but Apple is planning more than just this standalone product. The company is also working on a smart home hub, similar to Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon’s Echo Hub. Rumored features for this device include a 6-inch touchscreen, a new custom operating system with Apple Intelligence integration, FaceTime support, and comprehensive smart home controls.

In addition to these products, Apple is said to be preparing updated versions of its Apple TV and HomePod Mini devices for release next year, signaling a broader push into the smart home market. If successful, Apple’s expansion could reshape the industry, leveraging its ecosystem to provide seamless and secure smart home solutions. Apple fans and smart home enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching for updates as the release date approaches.
