What will the future be like? That is something we all like to wonder about, however, we doubt any of us give it as much thought as Oscar Viñals, a designer based in Barcelona. He came up with a concept of how the flight in 2030 would be and in doing so, he has created a concept plane.
The plane sports three decks and is capable of generating power to meet its own requirements. When compared with the conventional aircraft, it is about 75 times quieter. The plane has been named as AWWA-QG Progress Eagle and features 800 passenger capacity and shall use hydrogen fuel instead of burning up fossil fuel. At present, the world’s largest airliner is Airbus A380 that can accommodate 525 persons.
The design shows 6 hydrogen fuel engines being used to power the plane. One would have to drive a central screw-kind engine located at the rear in order to reach the thrust required for take-off. The central engine works in collaboration with the assembly of five super-conductive engines and once the plane reaches the optimum altitude, the central engine shuts down and begins to generate electricity from the air that flows through it.
Solar panels have also been incorporated into the design thus allowing the plane to generate the electric power that it consumes while in flight. According to Mr. Viñals, the aircraft shall be producing no carbon at all. The excess energy stored in the batteries shall be recovered with the help of special trucks that would have electrical storage mechanism once the plane lands. The cockpit has been placed on the second deck and contains an office along with beds and a workroom. Mr. Viñals further added that the aircraft shall be made from materials that are lightweight, such as aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber and ceramics.
The wingspan shall measure 96 meters while having the option of being partially folded so that the aircraft can be easily maneuvered once it is in airport. Mr. Viñals said, “The Progress Eagle is based in the technology beyond 2030 with ideas from quantum mechanics, if we consider the evolution of current technology and future progress in uses of theoretical physics solutions. Today we can find these technologies in the most advanced laboratories around the world (universities, private companies, government installations) and in the theories of the best scientifics. For these reasons, the innovations that the Progress Eagle presents could be available in fifteen years’ time. The most relevant aspects about this “Super Jet” would have a closer relation with quantum mechanics, we can simplify the airplane concept like a “Mega” energy’s particle with special specifications more orthodox than we can found in today’s physics.”
This plane would be the second concept aircraft that the designer came up with. Last year he designed AWWA Sky Whale that had a wingspan of 88 meters. According to Mr. Viñals, Progress Eagle is like a big brother to Sky Whale.
