A Weird Facebook Bug Was Sending Friend Requests Automatically If You Opened Someone’s Profile

A Meta spokesperson who commented on the situation of the strange Facebook bug that is automatically sending friend requests to individuals whose profiles you visit said, “a recent update to the Facebook app briefly caused Facebook friend requests to be sent mistakenly. We’ve stopped this from happening and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Facebook, one of the largest social media platforms, is famous for its glitches within its app. These bugs often leave users puzzled about the developers’ intentions. While it would be intriguing to delve into the history of these encountered bugs, the most recent one is an odd glitch that automatically sends friend requests to the profiles you visit.

This may sound peculiar, but numerous Twitter users have begun discussing this issue, where a simple visit to someone’s profile triggers a friend request to be sent. Fortunately, it is possible to cancel the request, but those who engage in mere online stalking may not bother to double-check and rectify it.

Oliver Cragg from Android Authority tried to replicate and prove this weird bug, and interestingly enough, he has a video to prove this.

Presently, the cause behind this occurrence remains unknown. Facebook has yet to make any official statements regarding this matter. Meanwhile, there is no update for the app specifically for this issue as well. There is no doubt over the fact that it is a certain bug considering the number of people that have come across it, but its cause still remains unknown.

In the meantime, it is better to refrain from visiting the profiles of individuals who are not in your Facebook friend list, unless, of course, you genuinely intend to send them a friend request.
