Lawn mowing has now changed from manual to electric/gasoline. Powered lawn mowers are a great help for clearing large gardens and backyards. Some of these are self-propelled, making the process even easier. These lawn mowers utilise revolving blades to cut the grass at equal height. With several types available in the market, each is suited to particular scale and purpose. Check out this list of best lawn mowers compiled by Wonderful Engineering. The 8 x 8 inches high-performance wheels assist in manoeuvrability, and an adjustable ergonomic handle allows comfortable operation. To start, you just pull the cord. The Single-lever deck height adjustment allows for six different grass height settings, from 1.25-inches to 3.75-inches, meeting all your length requirements.
“I just received this mower today, completed my first mow with it, and my initial impression is very positive. It takes only about 15 minutes to assemble and does not require any tools. The one pull start works as advertised out of the box, with no priming necessary. The one level adjust very easy and smooth. The first mow was a worst case scenario on my large hilly yard. The grass was very long (thanks to my old mower being broken) and wet from the strong thunderstorm that came through yesterday. The lawn mower had no problems not even leaving clumps of wet grass like my old mower would have. The variable speed lever was setup so that when I pulled it half way, the mower moved at a comfortable.Walking speed. The bag was easy to remove and empty, and it seemed to hold more grass than the one on my previous mower. Usually, it takes over an hour and a half to mow my yard, but with this mower, it took only 50 minutes. With my yard, rear wheel drive is a must. I was concern that the rear wheels were not as big as the wheels on my previous mower. However, the wheels only caught one time on a shallow root. Overall I would recommend this mower to all my friends.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I LOVE this mower. I live on a corner lot, so I have a lot more to mow. This mower was easier to put together. Very light weight. Easy to start. Great design. Doesn’t matter that it is NOT self-propelled. The bigger wheels in the back make it so much simpler to manage.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I love this mower! This is my second electric mower; I am a petite, mid 40’s professional woman. When I bought my house I knew I didn’t want to deal with a large, heavy gas mower that I would have to pull to start, change the oil, get blades sharpened, tune-ups, mix gas, etc., My time is valuable, I am independent I just want to get the job done. My first mower was good, lasted nine years had a massive acid battery & were self-propelled. It took me about 1.5 hours to cut just over 1/2 of an acre (hilly terrain), and if it wasn’t too long, I just might get it all in. I left the northeast, moved to South Florida, and I left my old mower behind. I researched, shopped, compared and then bought this one. I haven’t mowed my grass since I moved in and the first mower I ordered never made it to me d/t damage in transit. So since I didn’t know when the previous owner last cut the grass and we were now at three weeks of home ownership, I went out to home depot to look at mowers. I was impressed with the warranty; it folded super compactly & I was able to lift it into my trunk (I’m 100 lbs). But what sold me was the ease – push the button, grip the handle & go. I don’t know that I will mow at night, but my children loved the headlights. When I got it home, I didn’t charge it, just took it out and me, my 9 & 7 years old all took turns with the new mower. It was super easy, quiet and fast! There was one area that was a bit long, and I had to take less than a full pass, but I was able to get 1/4th acre done in 15 minutes. The battery died just as I was finishing. Placed it on the charger and it was back to 100% in a half hour! Love it! Love it!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

7. Earthwise Lawn Mower ($79.99)
This unit by Earthwise features a 14inches, self-propelled lawn mower. It has 8-1/2-inches diameter high impact polymer wheels with integral moulded tread. It has steel side plates and comes with three spiders and one blade reel. The cutting height is measured 1/2-inches to 1-1/2-inches with adjustable 3-section roller.
“Love this thing! I’ve never had to mow a lawn before, so I can’t compare how well this works in my particular garden compared to a gas or electric mower, but I do love that I don’t have to fuss with oil changes or troubleshoot electrical issues.
It’s very efficient and gives a sharp and uniform cut, even on slightly sloped/bumpy ground and tall grass (my lawn was about a foot high for the first mow). It was very straightforward and quick to put together; the only troublesome part was snapping on the e-rings. I ended up using a hammer to tap them into place lightly.
It took an hour to finish the whole lawn the very first time, and now with weekly maintenance, it takes just 15 minutes. I highly recommend this if, like me, you have a pretty small yard. It does get stuck on twigs and such (very easy to remove from the blades though), so you’ll have to clear away all of that first.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

6. American Lawn Mower Company Lawn Mower ($59.29)
This is also a manual lawn mower by American Lawn Mower Company. It provides a clean and scissor-like cut and is constructed from alloy-steel. The 8-1/2-inch diameter high impact, polymer wheels make manoeuvrability a breeze and the unit comes with 3-spider 1-blade reel and an adjustable roller. Assembly required.
Specifications By The Manufacturer:
- 1/2- to 1-1/2-inch cutting height
- 14-inch cutting width
- 19 pounds in weight
“Keep in mind that this mower is 14” wide. Which is not much more than one foot wide. So if you have a “real” lawn just imagine how many trips back and forth you will have to do across your lawn. If you live in anything larger than a townhouse, this is too small. If you do not want to purchase a gas or electric mower, look at the massive push mowers (18 or 20in) but not this one.
If you have a small area to mow, this is a great option. I bought this for my 110lb girlfriend who has no trouble pushing this around her tiny fenced in yard which is probably 15ft by 15ft. It is easy to manoeuvre around and only takes a few minutes to mow the grass. She has an electric trimmer which she uses along the fence.
As others have mentioned, it doesn’t cut through twigs and branches very well unless you get some momentum going. And it does tend to leave random blades of grass sticking up that it doesn’t like to cut. These blades are usually longer than the rest of the lawn or are a different type of grass. But once you have the grass a relatively constant length it does a good job of maintaining it.
So if you have a tiny yard, this is an excellent choice for you. If you have a medium or large garden, this is not a good option.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

5. The Great States Lawn Mower ($98.45)

You can easily adjust height from 1/2-inch to 2-3/4-inch. The powder coated finished handle lasts longer and prevents rust. Excellent quality of cut with heat treated blades. The unit also features tempered alloy steel reel and bed knife blade and an unbreakable steel side plate.
“I have a small patch of lawn in a front yard and a large piece for a backyard. I just HATED dragging out the big noisy gas mower for the front. I am still a bit taken aback at a price on reel mowers but after using it, I understand. This is no flimsy hunk of aluminium and plastic. This is a nice thick chunk of metal. The blades will stay sharp for years. It made short work of my lawn and was NOT tedious to push around. The reel spins smoothly and is pleasant to listen to compare it to the din of gas mowers. I’ve already had a neighbour ask me where I got it.
I gave this mower only four stars instead of 5 because:
1. The T-handle was difficult to attach to the reel. I had to whack at it with a hammer to get it into the correct position on the reel.
2. It does NOT work well on taller grass. Anything too tall just gets rolled over. (Incentive to keep the lawn in check.)
But these negatives do not outweigh the positives.
Overall, I’m glad I got it!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“I bought my Husqvarna 21 inch push mower with the 5.5HP Honda engine in 2003. I mow about 1 acre total of non-irrigated weeds on the hilly rough terrain. I beat this mower up year after year, and it’s never failed to start right up and offer up plenty of power through tall grass. This year (2010) during the first mowing of the season I ran over a small tree stump and bent the crankshaft, even doing the work myself it will probably be too expensive to justify repairing a seven-year-old mower, but I will replace it with the same thing when I get a new one.
6/11/2010 Follow-up: I was able to find a crankshaft online inexpensively which allowed me to try to do the repair myself. I am happy to report that the mower re-build project was a success and my Honda engine is purring along happily once again, may I get many more seasons of use from this very durable lawn mower.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

3. Black & Decker Lawn Mower ($79.99)
This is Black and Decker’s 6.5-ampere, 3-in-1, electric trimmer, edger and mower. The unit features an automatic feed system that ensures continual work without bumping or having to stop. The gear drive transmission prevents bogging down and the 6.5-ampere motor provides maximum performance. Ideal for small yards and lawns. The mower deck also features two height adjustment options that raises or lowers all four wheels.
“This was a good idea whoever thought of it, the functionality of a mower and weed eater. I bought this because I have a small yard and my electric mower broke after seven years. I don’t like gas power mowers or do I need one for my little lawn, so I was thinking about buying another electric mower tell I saw this. It’s perfect for my needs, very easy to use and slips right into the mower part and detaches very easy. The Trimmer/Mower is easy to clean and store in my garage, and It’s pretty robust for only being 6amp. I had no problems mowing my lawn for the 1st time this season, and the grass was tall. I posted pictures of it and the job it did here on Amazon if you want to check them out. The unit is nice just to start weed eating and edge trimming and then snap it back in and continue mowing. My experience with weed eaters is if you keep them clean by rinsing them off after you use them they last a long time also I store my tools in my garage and not outside which increase’s the life of them. The trimmer is single feed which I like a lot more than the double, it’s just easier to put more cord in it, and with the single feed, the cable seems to last longer. Set up out of the box took me around two mins, took me longer to locate my screwdriver than it did to screw the one screw that attaches the guard to the trimmer and that was it. I was mowing within five mins of pulling this out of the box (it’s the Corded Version BTW). I really can’t say enough about this product. Glad to have it!” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

2. Snow Joe Lawn Mower ($94.97)
This unit by Snow Joe is a 14 inches, 12-ampere electric lawn mower with an integrated grass bag. The motor cuts a 14-inch wide path and has 3-position height control. Detachable grass catcher allows for easy disposal of grass clippings. Compact and lightweight (only 29 pounds) its rugged all-terrain wheels make it easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces.
“My background:
1st time using the mower, the lawn has never been mowed before.
Experience:
Assembly is straight forward, simple and succinct. After assembly took it out for a test drive. I ended up mowing my whole lawn and had the urge to mow some of my neighbour’s garden with it just because it was so fun. It has three settings high mid and low. High setting was already relatively low. The blade was clean cut and managed to get a relatively smooth cutting over the whole lawn. Using electric was also a plus. No gas smell and is a lot less noisy than my neighbour’s behemoth. The grass catcher is easy to detach and reattach. The handle bar has a safety button which gets annoying because once you stop, you have to repress the button and start again.
Overall is very excellent. It is a little mower with great potential. Though don’t try to run this through huge amounts of grass like a light saber. It won’t work. Just take it slow, and it’ll do its job.
Highly recommend for the first-time buyer. Maybe second-time buyers if you are looking for something small.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

The 7 position height adjustment offers a range of cutting height from 1 1/2-inches to 3 3/4-inches for the perfect cut on all grass types. Available in 12A and 24V power.
“This is my first electric mower. I have roughly 1/2 acre of grass to mow. I took it out today to mulch up some lingering leaves from last fall, and it worked great, plenty of power, and I don’t mind pulling an extension cord.
One note, though, it is not sealed, the motor gets filthy during use. I suggest up and regularly cleaning with a blast of compressed air or a leaf blower. The screws don’t come out easy – I’m going to replace them with quick release pins so I can thoroughly clean mine up after every use.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
