World’s most expensive motorhome is about to hit the roads at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, and it is one of the largest to get there. The Variomobil Signature 1200 is powered by a 523 hp Mercedes engine, and the grand bus even has the space for your Porche 911, Mini Cooper, or Mercedes SL roadster. The perfect living-travel package, right?
Motorhomes are normally quite tiny, and most of them do not have space for additional vehicles. Variomobil, the German designer of motor homes, has just introduced the Signature 1200 for your perfect luxury trips. The 6×2 Mercedes Actros-based home measures 39 foot (12 meters) and packs a garage at its rear that is accessible by a hydraulic ramp. The six-cylinder turbo diesel engine is your go-to for any trip. The steerable trailing axle improves the maneuverability. The driving experience is further improved by the air suspension and the driver-assistance technologies like lane departure alert, active braking assist, and 360-degree camera system.
The Varimobil home comes with three garage size options, and the largest one is “XXL” that can easily pack in a car that is the size of Porche 911, Mercedes SL, or a Mini Cooper. It may sound stupid to carry a vehicle into another one, but imagine what if you have to take the monster truck to mountainous areas.
Apart from the classic garage, the Signature 1200 features luxury living quarters inside insulated fiberglass cabin. The layout of the cabins will be specific to every customer’s needs. A touchscreen-controlled induction cooktop, a 190-L refrigerator, dishwasher, full bathroom, LED TV with satellite, Bose audio system, washer/dryer, leather upholstery, wood veneers, and smart lighting, all come within the package.
Just behind the driver cab, there lies the open living area next to the kitchen and the tiny dinette. The bedroom and the bathroom stay at the rear with pneumatic slide outs that open into the living area. Air conditioning, floor heating systems, and diesel water heaters are optional, but standard gas heating and hot water are included. Up to 420 watts of solar panels, diesel generator or fuel cell, and a 500-L fresh water tank is among the standard available systems.
The cost of the motorhome varies according to the amenities added by the customer by choice, but the base price is €773,500 (~ US$922,000). If you intend to fit a Porsche 911 in there, affording this luxury glamping pod will not be problem for you. According to items that are added on, the base price is likely to rise sky high. The model presented at the Caravan Salon was priced around €1.1 million (US$1.3 million).
