10 Highest Paying Engineering Fields Of 2016

The 46th Edition of Starting Salaries Report published by Michigan State University’s Employment Research Institute claims that engineering graduates have, once again, taken the lead when it comes to getting the top pay. This report was published after data collection from 4,700 employers from late August through September 2016. Year after year, we have seen the engineering jobs taking the lead for being the best-paying ones, and this doesn’t even include commissions, bonuses, and others incentives.

50 salary reports were collected by the Michigan State’s career office for new graduates in each field. Below are the results:

1. Electrical Engineering takes the lead with highest starting salary of $62,428.
2. Computer Engineering comes in second, averaging around $61,466 in annual salary.
3. Chemical Engineering graduates earn an average salary of $61,125 per year.
4. Computer Engineering with an annual salary of $61,092
5. Mechanical Engineering graduates earn an average annual salary of $59,610
6. Computer programming earn $59,163 per annum
7. Information security systems engineers can earn nearly $58,798 per year
8. Computer science graduates take about $57,762 per year
9. Civil Engineering graduates earn $54,333 annually
10. Construction Engineering are the last of the lot, earning $49,577 per year

This is all brilliant new for all the engineering students, fresh graduates as well as students aspiring to get into engineering. Another good news is that despite the market fluctuations due to the Presidential elections,  ‘New Grad hiring’ is seriously rising in 2017.

As a result, 48 percent of the employers are looking to increase starting salaries,  according to the Michigan State University’s Employment Research Institute survey.

And although the pay scale and monetary incentives should not be the only method of selecting a career, it indeed is a factor as it will affect the rest of your life.

    The effect of two years experience is only around $200/year for comp. eng. that looks so stunning but also indicates that an unrealistic survey.
