Jem Stansfield showed how focused sunlight can be used to melt almost any substance on earth on his show, Bang Goes The Theory. Many of us have seen metal being melted by sunlight. For example, the case of the car melted by sunlight focused off of a convex-shaped building across the street.
Jem traveled to the Solar Furnace Research Facility, located in Southern France, to see the power of highly concentrated sunlight in action. In case you are wondering how hot it gets when sunlight is focused on something, the answer is 6300 degrees Fahrenheit. Watch the video and see how sunlight is used to melt a rock before your eyes.
