At OpenAI’s DevDay 2025, the company revealed its ambitious plan to integrate ChatGPT directly into popular applications and one of the first collaborations to go live is with Spotify. Starting today, both free and premium Spotify users can ask ChatGPT to recommend songs, artists, or podcasts based on their tastes and listening history.
This new feature transforms ChatGPT into a personalized DJ and playlist curator, allowing users to not only discover new music but also add those recommendations directly into their Spotify app.
Spotify’s ChatGPT feature is designed to make music discovery more intuitive and conversational. To get started, users simply mention “Spotify” while chatting with ChatGPT. The first time they do this, ChatGPT will prompt them to connect their Spotify account a completely optional step that can be disconnected at any time.

Once connected, users can make natural requests like: “Make a workout playlist from the artists I listen to regularly,” “find podcasts about AI and creativity” or “play some relaxing jazz for a rainy evening.” ChatGPT then generates a curated list of tracks or podcasts that can be opened directly in the Spotify app.
Free users will be able to access recommendations from existing playlists such as Discover Weekly or New Music Friday, while premium subscribers will enjoy a more advanced, personalized experience one that builds unique playlists from scratch based on individual preferences and moods.
Spotify emphasizes that specificity helps. The more details you provide such as mood, genre, or artist the more accurate and satisfying your results will be. For podcasts, specifying a topic, host, or guest can lead to better recommendations.
Spotify describes this as just the beginning of a new era in AI-driven personalization. The company says it’s continuing to refine its recommendation systems using both machine learning and insights from human editors, ensuring that every playlist feels authentic and tailored.

A Spotify spokesperson noted that it’s still “early days” for the integration, meaning some requests may not yet yield perfect results but the collaboration is expected to evolve rapidly as OpenAI’s new Apps SDK ecosystem matures.
Interestingly, the partnership arrives only weeks after Spotify publicly reaffirmed its stance against “AI slop”, a term used to describe low-quality, mass-produced AI-generated music that floods streaming platforms. Spotify has pledged to protect genuine artistry and ensure AI enhances, rather than replaces, creative expression.
