The world’s tiniest Rubik’s Cube, a stunning invention that measures just 0.19 inches (5 millimeters) per side, has been revealed by Japanese toymaker MegaHouse. At a little 0.33 grams in weight, this tiny metal cube is priced heftily at $5,320. Its creation was a component of MegaHouse’s homage to the 50th anniversary of Hungarian sculptor Erno Rubik’s original Rubik’s Cube.
The corporation formally began development in 2022, but the road to create this small masterpiece started roughly four years ago. Even while it might seem possible to create a 0.5 cm cube with today’s technology, creating a fully working Rubik’s Cube at such a small scale with rotating faces was a problem. In order to address this, MegaHouse worked with precision cutting specialist Iriso Precision to make sure all of the cube’s parts were flawlessly designed. “The trinity of machines, cutting tools, and players’ passion is what led to the creation of the 5-millimeter Rubik’s Cube,” stated Kiyokazu Saito, president of Iriso Precision.
Because of the exactitude and intricacy involved in its creation, this mini cube is one-thousandth the size of the original Rubik’s Cube but will cost many more times than the larger one. This minute marvel was just listed as available for pre-order on the MegaHouse website at 777,777 yen (approximately $5,320), with the first orders set to leave Japan in April of the following year. At such a high price and for being so unique, it is bound to get some attention as a collector’s item rather than just a casual puzzle.
As a mark of its cutting-edge design, MegaHouse’s creation earned the Guinness World Record for the World’s Smallest Rotating Puzzle in August. The world’s tiniest Rubik’s Cube is evidence of just how far modern engineering can take established icons and of the resurgent appeal of one of history’s most famous puzzles.
