Sany Renewable Energy, a Chinese business that is a subsidiary of Sany, has put into service what it calls the largest onshore wind turbine in the world. China’s Tongyu facility, located in Jilin Province, has erected a 15 MW turbine known as the SI-270150 type. With a rotor diameter of 885 feet (270 meters), this turbine breaks the record for both the greatest single-unit capacity and the largest rotor diameter of any onshore turbine, according to Sany.
The prototype SI-270150 will be tested for a full year to verify its dependability in practical settings. With 430 feet (131 meters) of blade length, the turbine can sweep an area that is 616,159 square feet (57,256 square meters). According to Sany, one of these turbines can produce enough electricity annually to power 160,000 families.
The turbine, which is based on Sany’s 12.X-16.X MW platform, has a 25–30 year design life and uses cutting-edge intelligent load reduction technology. This invention ensures that the turbine may be effectively installed in remote areas by lowering the overall burden on the system and making long-distance land transportation easier.
The turbine features a dual tapered roller bearing (TRB) integrated main shaft support system, which enhances its load-bearing capacity and stability in various conditions. The development of this turbine included producing 430-foot-long blades at the Bayannur Smart Industrial Park. To address potential structural issues, Sany has designed an optimized aerodynamic blade structure with a thicker and stronger build.
Sany has integrated several advanced technologies into its blade production, such as three-dimensional trailing edge design, automated infusion for composite blades, and recyclable polyurethane components to boost sustainability. These innovations aim to replace traditional manual manufacturing with automated processes, increasing productivity through intelligent production techniques.
With these advancements, Sany hopes to push the boundaries of wind turbine technology, creating more durable, efficient, and sustainable solutions for the renewable energy sector.
