In a strange incident, a woman’s breast implants ended up saving her life. How? They were able to stop a bullet that was making its way to her heart. The report comes from the doctors in Canada and it is being said that this is the first event of its kind.
It happened in Ontario, Canada, and an investigation is ongoing regarding it. The police still have to identify the culprit who pulled the trigger and is still looking for the firearm that was used. As per the study, the anonymous Canadian female – 30 years old – was out on the street when she experienced ‘heat and pain’ in her left chest.
When she saw her blood, she went to the emergency room and was soon taken to the hospital’s trauma center. The examinations concluded that she had been shot but the bullet ended up in the woman’s lower right chest wall. As per doctors, it was supposed to end up in the woman’s heart if it wasn’t for her implant that deflected the trajectory of the projectile.
The photographs show that the bullet traveled through the left-side implant which then deflected it thus making it move towards the right implant. The picture on the right shows the left breast implant and you can clearly observe the trajectory. The right breast implant took damage because of the bullet’s trajectory. The 3D image shows the entry wound on the left breast, route of the bullet, and then the bullet finally stopping in the right lateral chest wall.
The woman, all because of her D-cups, only ended up with a fractured right rib and lost her breast implants. The heroic implants have been removed and the wounds have been cleaned. She has been given antibiotics as a precaution. Giancarlo McEvenue, the research team leader and plastic surgeon, said, ‘The unfortunate story has a happy ending in that the patient only suffered minor injuries and made a complete recovery.’
This is the first reported case wherein an implant has managed to deflect the bullet to ‘relative safety’. The findings of this research have been reported in Plastic Surgery Case Studies.
