Apple is gearing up to release the iPhone 16, which is expected to be its most advanced smartphone yet, tomorrow.
The iPhone 16 is rumored to be the first iPhone to launch with “Apple Intelligence” across all models, elevating the user experience with features such as image generation, call recording and transcription, and an upgraded Siri that can better understand what’s onscreen.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the term “glowtime” may reference a new glow effect seen around the screen when Siri is activated in iOS 18. This update comes with enhanced AI functionality, further expanding on features introduced at Apple’s WWDC in June.
Apple’s next-generation iPhones will also require powerful processors to support these advanced AI features. The iPhone 16 lineup is expected to include the A18 chip, marking an upgrade from the A17 Pro chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro. This new chip is expected to power Apple Intelligence across all iPhone 16 models, offering better performance and improved AI capabilities.
The iPhone 16’s camera design is also expected to change slightly, with the main models sporting a vertical lens alignment similar to earlier iPhone versions like the iPhone 12 and X. This layout is rumored to support landscape spatial video capture, making it ideal for users of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The Pro models may get upgrades as well, including a 5x “tetraprism” telephoto lens and a larger 48MP ultrawide camera sensor, improving photo and video quality.
In terms of appearance, the iPhone 16 Pro models are anticipated to come in new finishes, including a rose and bronze titanium option. The display sizes for both the Pro and Pro Max will be slightly larger, with the Pro jumping from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the Pro Max expanding from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Additionally, rumors suggest that pressure-sensitive side buttons could be introduced, potentially adding a DSLR-style camera focus feature.
Furthermore, Apple is expected to unveil the new Apple Watch Series 10, which could feature a thinner case and a larger 49mm screen option, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. A refreshed Apple Watch Ultra is also rumored to be in the works.
Moreover, a plastic version of the Apple Watch SE may also debut as a comparatively affordable option.
Apple’s AirPods lineup is set for an update as well, with new entry-level and mid-tier models replacing the second-and third-generation versions.
In addition to these major product releases, there are hints that Apple could introduce a new Mac Mini, nearly as small as an Apple TV. The new Mac Mini is expected to ship soon, and an M Pro chip version may follow in October.
Apple’s iPhone 16 event is scheduled for September 9th at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT in Cupertino, California, and will be streamed live on YouTube, Apple TV, and the company’s website.
