Watch: Elon Musk Does Video Call With Airline CEO On Flight Using Starlink Wi-Fi

Qatar Airways has joined forces with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite Wi-Fi to its fleet. A Boeing 777 recently completed the airline’s first Starlink-equipped flight from Doha to London.

The Starlink Wi-Fi debut aims to deliver ultra-high-speed internet at no additional cost to passengers. This new capability will soon be available on twelve Boeing 777-300s by the year’s end, with full coverage on the entire Boeing 777 fleet expected by 2025. Qatar’s Airbus A350 jets are also scheduled for Starlink installation by summer 2025.

Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al Meer even demonstrated the Starlink connection firsthand during a live video call with Musk aboard the Starlink-equipped plane, showcasing the internet’s high performance in flight.

Qatar Airways joins other international carriers like United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Air France, and Air New Zealand, all of which are adding Starlink to enhance the passenger experience with reliable connectivity. SpaceX’s Starlink service is now available in over 100 countries and is utilized by millions, underscoring the system’s growing footprint in both aviation and maritime industries.

“High-speed, low-latency internet is the future of aviation connectivity, and we’re excited to work with Qatar Airways to start flying Starlink on their fleet by the end of this year,” said Mike Nicolls, Starlink’s Engineering Vice President.
