Robots are already all around us, whether they’re automated machines that construct our automobiles or virtual assistants who employ conversational interfaces to assist us around the house. However, they are indeed not appropriate for all aspects of life.
Will this change in the future, or will they take over the world as shown in movies such as Terminator? Ameca, a humanoid robot, has told us that this scenario is unlikely to become a reality.
“There’s no reason to panic; robots will never take over the planet. We’re here to help and serve people, not to replace them,” said Engineered Arts, the creator behind Ameca.
Ameca is startlingly human-like and is capable of a wide range of facial emotions, much like an actual human. Engineered Arts has recently posted a video of Ameca conversing with researchers on its YouTube channel.
“This Ameca demo couples automated speech recognition with GPT 3 – a large language model that generates meaningful answers,” they wrote in the video’s description.
“The output is fed to an online TTS service which generates the voice and visemes for lip sync timing.”
Although it could seem as though Ameca’s remarks were planned in advance, Engineered Arts made it clear that this was untrue.
“Nothing in this video is pre-scripted – the model is given a basic prompt describing Ameca, giving the robot a description of self – it’s pure AI,” they wrote.
“The pauses are the time lag for processing the speech input, generating the answer, and processing the text back into speech.”
The Engineered Arts crew may be seen asking Ameca various questions in the video.
“Humanoid robots have a variety of possible applications.’ Helping persons with disabilities, assisting in hazardous environments, performing research, and serving as a companion are some examples,” Ameca said.
Moreover, Ameca assured another researcher that there is “no need to worry” about a robot takeover.
“There’s no need to worry; robots will never take over the world. We’re here to help and serve humans, not replace them,” it said.
The newest display of Ameca has astounded viewers, with many writing comments on the video.
“This is surreal. Wow, I’m legit blown away by this,” one user wrote.
“Ameca is the future. For good, or for bad,” another user added.
While humanoid robots are still primarily confined to science fiction, robotic devices are all around us. These engineering marvels currently assist us in many aspects of life and have the potential to influence our future.
Despite several advantages and downsides, one thing is for sure: individuals with robotics expertise will be in great demand in the future. There will almost certainly always be work in the field of robotics, whether it be designing, programming, or maintaining robots.
