Volvo has some really inspirational plans regarding making its cars fatality free by 2020. The company talked about this vision of its back in 2007 and since then, has been rolling out updates and technologies to eliminate deaths and reduce injuries in its vehicles. What follows are some of the safety features that Volvo plans on using to achieve the death-proof car status it is striving towards.
8. The pedestrian detection!
Sensors embedded in the car will allow it to ascertain if a person is nearby and a warning will be issued if that’s the case. In case that there is no time to issue a warning, the car will apply brakes in order to avoid a collision with the pedestrian.
7. Cyclist detection.
This function allows the car to notify the driver if a cyclist is close by and does so by sounding an alarm and shall proceed to apply brakes if it detects that a collision is imminent.
6. Animal Detection Feature.
The car slows down and even come to a halt if the camera and radar sensors pick up that the driver is approaching a large animal.
5. Crash Safety Features.
The company is not only incorporating airbags for the driver and passengers but also for the pedestrians that might be involved in a collision with the car. These pedestrian airbags will be outside the car in order to help and lessen the impact in case of a collision.
4. Adaptive cruise control
This feature allows the driver to set a speed and ensures that the car stays at a safe distance behind the traffic by controlling the gas and brakes. It works in collaboration, in newer models, with the pilot assist technology to keep the car in the correct lane. A blind spot information system engages the sensors to let you know of the traffic around the vehicle so that you can switch lanes safely.
3. The assist Feature
A camera determines when the driver might be swaying from the lane unintentionally and gently steers the car back into the designated lane. It works in collaboration with a driver alert control that allows it to ascertain when a driver is getting weary and sounds an alarm to keep the driver alert.
