UpLamp is the world’s first lampless lamp. UpLamp has forgone the necessity of incorporating any light source like a bulb or an LED by improvising an innovative design that uses the LED flash of your smartphone to light up your surroundings.
UpLamp’s optics scatter the flare of the LED flash into the interior of the gadget. The surface of the device is impregnated with a fluorescent chemical resin that produces a soft glow from the lamp.
Albeit having a hollow interior, UpLamp comes with a few smart features owing to the smart companion app. The brightness of the UpLamp can be adjusted according to the user’s preference using the hand gestures.
Similarly, two claps can turn the lamp on or off or even activate the snooze mode. The lamp is energy smart and can automatically switch off if no movement is detected for half an hour.
UpLamp also doubles as a smartphone charging dock and can also amplify the audio of the smartphone. The gadget is not equipped with any speakers; rather it is the hollow chamber that redirects and thus, enhances the sound coming from the phone speakers.
The lamp is compatible with iPhone 5, 5S, 6, and 6S as well as the Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S7, and S7 Edge. For other handsets, a custom 3D printer adapter can be requested in the order.
UpLamp is aiming to raise US$40,000 via its Kickstarter campaign. UpLamp is expected to be delivered in August.
