A woman in Arizona died after being hit by an Uber self-driving car. It is reported that the ride-hailing company had suspended its autonomous vehicle program all over the US. The accident in Tempe, Arizona is marked as the first fatality from a self-driving car. These cars are still under test all over the world.
The accident occurred overnight Sunday to Monday when the car was in autonomous mode and a vehicle operator was behind the wheel. Tempa police said, “The vehicle was traveling northbound when a female walking outside of the crosswalk, crossed the road from west to east when she was struck by the Uber vehicle.”
A spokesman for the Uber Technologies Inc said that the company is suspending its self-driving car tests in North America. Uber also expressed its condolences in a tweet. They said that the company was fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation of the accident.
