It’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the current drama on Twitter. On a daily basis, there is banter, but today it is getting crazy. According to reports, Musk has locked all Twitter employees out of the company’s premises.
According to BBC, the company informed employees through email that the offices would reopen on November 21 (Monday) without providing any explanation for the decision.
“Thank you for your flexibility. Please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere,” the email read.
In a tweet, the platform’s managing editor Zoe Schiffer said, “Twitter just alerted employees that effective immediately, all office buildings are temporarily closed, and badge access is suspended. No details were given as to why.”
She added, “We’re hearing this because Elon Musk and his team are terrified employees will sabotage the company. Also, they’re still trying to figure out which Twitter workers they need to cut access for.”
The email comes after claims that Musk issued an ultimatum to his employees this week. According to The Washington Post, Twitter is “shifting to an engineer-driven organization,” which “will need to be extremely hardcore” in the future. According to the Post, Musk told staff that “this would require working long hours at high intensity” and that “only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”
In a survey on the workplace app Blind, which validates employees by email addresses and allows them to communicate information anonymously, 42 percent of 180 respondents chose the answer “Taking exit option; I’m free!”
A quarter stated that they chose to stay “reluctantly,” while only 7% said they “clicked yes to stay, I’m hardcore.”
Musk was meeting with top staff to persuade them to stay, according to one current employee.
While it is unclear how many employees opted to stay, the figures reflect some employees’ reluctance to stay at a company where Musk is aggressively transforming the culture to emphasize long hours and a fast pace.
