Youtuber, Jason Fenske of Engineering Explained, solve the eternal question in the tuner world about turbocharged and supercharged. He tells about both forms of the forced induction that have their advantages and disadvantages. It is up to the driver to decide which one suits them best.
Turbocharged are amazing since they turn exhaust gas which is otherwise wasted into power. They help small engines to generate large power and provide some torque which a normal engine cannot have without it.
Superchargers, force air into the engine by drawing power from the engine and not the exhaust. As the RPM increases the effectiveness of the supercharger also increases. Superchargers don’t change the trajectory of the torque curve like turbochargers. Driving a supercharger is more like driving a naturally aspirated car which has more horsepower. The throttle response of supercharger is also similar to that of a naturally aspirated car so there is no need to wait for the power to kick in.
There are also some drawbacks of each of these. Turbochargers usually induce a lot of lag. They generate a lot of heat. On the other hand, superchargers are sucking power from the engine to run which is also not very efficient.
