Innovation at CES can take unexpected forms, and Swippitt, a toaster-like gadget, has become a game changer in phone charging. This device promises a life free of tangled cords and dead batteries and is an innovative, if expensive, solution for the modern user.
Swippitt, which rhymes with “whip it,” is not a toaster, but a system of interchangeable batteries and custom phone cases. External batteries are housed in these cases and seamlessly charge your phone through an integrated power connector. You don’t recharge the battery manually when it runs low. Instead, you place your phone (with case) into the Swippitt Hub. The hub swaps in a fresh 3,500mAh battery in seconds and recharges the depleted one for future use.
As long as your phone has a compatible case, this mechanical process works universally. Swippitt will launch with support for iPhone 14, 15, and 16 models, and will add the Samsung Galaxy S series by the end of 2025. The accompanying app also lets users fine-tune charging preferences, such as limiting battery levels to 80 percent for longevity or scheduling charges at certain times.
Swippitt’s promise is alluring: a life where you never have to worry about charging cables ever again. But there is a price for convenience. The hub comes with five batteries for $450, or $120 for a case on its own. Introductory discounts like 30% off January purchases and a $100 CES promo are available to early adopters, but it’s still a pricey investment compared to regular chargers.
If you’re tired of having to manage multiple charging accessories or worrying about low battery, Swippitt’s tidy, effortless solution might be worth the price. For now, trusty chargers and power banks will be the go to for everyone else. And for some, it might change phone charging forever: Shipping starts in June 2025.
