The owner of a Tesla said he used its vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system, Full Self-Driving, to get home after drinking heavily on Christmas, Insider reported.
“I admitted the other day, I was a little bit tipsy after Christmas,” the driver, with Twitter, handle @denguyen73, said during a Twitter Spaces call.
“I was probably drunk,” he added. “But with FSD, it drove me home, I mean, flawlessly.”
Tesla’s Full-Self Driving mode is a software that claims to be a completely autonomous system. It is “designed to provide more active guiding and aided driving under your active supervision,” according to the company’s website. In addition, it is compatible with the Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot systems designed for freeways and highways.
A federal criminal inquiry into the beta system was launched in 2021. The investigation looks into whether Tesla’s claim of “full self-driving capabilities” defrauds consumers.
California senators proposed bills last year that, if passed, would ban Tesla and other automakers from using the term “full self-driving.”
Another government investigation was launched against Tesla regarding “phantom braking.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that 758 Tesla owners have filed reports detailing instances in which their cars abruptly and violently braked while driving at highway speeds.
When drivers use Tesla’s Autopilot, which automatically accelerates, decelerates, and steers on highways, these tragic events seem to occur more frequently.
