The automotive industry has been witnessing a new trend in recent times with the emergence of “NEVs,” or “neighborhood electric vehicles.” While the term “SUV” has been around since 1974, NEVs are the new buzz in the industry.
A recent article in Car and Driver suggests that with models like the Wink Mark 2 Solar, which is an affordable and energy-efficient car with solar panel and plug-in charging options, NEVs may soon become as popular as SUVs.
The Wink Mark 2 Solar is the flagship model of American automaker Wink Motors, which specializes in producing compact electric vehicles that prioritize efficiency. Despite their resemblance to golf carts, Wink’s models are equipped with many of the features you would expect to find in larger, more expensive vehicles, including air conditioning, power windows, and door locks, a color media display, and a rearview camera.
And the best part? The Mark 2 Solar can be charged for free with solar energy, and its battery can be charged for up to 60 miles on a single charge. In addition, the roof-mounted solar panel can provide an additional 15 miles of driving range while the car is in use.
Priced at just $11,995, the Mark 2 Solar is a much more affordable option compared to traditional electric cars. Wink’s cars may be smaller and cuter than traditional vehicles, but they are street-legal and can be driven on roads with speed limits of up to 35 miles per hour. This makes them a great choice for running errands or getting around small communities.
According to Wink’s website, the company plans to increase production early this year to meet growing demand. In addition to the Mark 2 Solar and the Mark 1, Wink offers other two-door models, such as the Sprout and the Sprout Solar, the latter of which has a large solar panel on the roof like the Mark 2.
All Wink models are priced under $12,000 and can be reserved for a deposit of only $250.
The rise of neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) like the Wink Mark 2 Solar is an exciting development in the world of sustainable transportation. These vehicles offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option for short trips and errands, and their cute and compact design makes them a great fit for small communities.
As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how companies like Wink Motors will continue to innovate and expand their offerings. With their commitment to efficiency and affordability, NEVs may just be the future of transportation in our neighborhoods.
