Speed bumps are designed to slow down the cars in high pedestrian areas. They cause damage to car’s shock absorption system even when the car is driven at a moderate speed over them. This company is actually using speed bump to punish the drivers who drive faster than the recommended speed. Their speed bumps do not do any harm to the average driver’s car.
The Spanish company Bedenova S.L has developed the world’s first liquid speed bump. This is not an ordinary bump but an intelligent design of road engineering. The liquid bump stays normal when a car is driven at a moderate speed but as soon as it is impacted with force, the liquid inside hardens and creates an obstacle that makes drivers to reduce the speed of their cars. The liquid bump looks like an ordinary speed bump but under its plastic exterior is a liquid that changes its state from liquid to solid when faced an impact.
The non-Newtonian fluid is biodegradable and harmless to humans. The exterior of the speed bump is made up of an ultra-tough plastic. The material is highly resistant to ageing, wear, vandalism and unfavourable weather conditions. The whole bump is a single entity and for installation, it only needs to be bolted into the existing tarmac on road.
The speed bump is available for indoor use in parking garages, sheds and other covered areas for now. Badennova was created in 2009 with the vision of developing a smart speed bump that will only be targetting and affecting the vehicles which are overspeeding.
