Smartphone addiction is a real problem that we face in the world that we are living in and it has become so worse that restaurants are actually offering customers free food given that they can stay away from their devices during the duration of their meal. Curry Pizza Company is a pizza place in Fresno, California. The company is offering its customers a ‘talk to each other discount’.
The talk to each other discount at Curry Pizza Company works quite simply. You will have to give up your smartphones while you are in the restaurant and talk to each other during the meal. The discount is only applicable to groups comprised of four or more persons. All of the group members must be carrying a functional smartphone.
If the group qualifies for the offer by Curry Pizza Company, it can enjoy a large pizza for free on the next visit or have it donated to the homeless in downtown Fresno. The Curry Pizza Company’s Facebook announcement reads, ‘Our goal is to get families/friends to stop using their phones while eating and talk to each other and communicate more. If you like you may receive a free large (per group) on your next visit (must be at least 24 hours) or you can donate your free large pizza to the needy. We donate pizzas to the homeless in downtown Fresno every month, so we would add your donated pizza along with the many others, or you could do it yourself.’
Varinder Malhi, the co-owner of Curry Pizza Company, says that he was inspired to incentivize others after he experienced the benefits of smartphone breaks. He said that he wanted to set a good example for his kids and used his phone only during emergencies at home. The staff at the company will make sure that smartphones are functional and have service to rule out the problem of old phones or replicas. The offer was announced about twenty-one days ago, and so far the company has given away forty to fifty large pizzas.
